Stock up on Mountain Dew and pop-tarts, folks. Ah well, that’s what I get for not requesting time off in advance. I’m super psyched for Cataclysm, even if I’ll still have to be working all next week writing news for y’all. I mean, that midair city in the clouds (the raid instance of Skywall)? That’s eye candy, right there. If you do, though, it’s pretty fun to watch – and I’m consistently impressed by how Blizzard’s stellar art department can make a game that was technologically dated when it came out six years ago still look so good. If you don’t play WoW, you probably won’t care that much. ![]() Yes, it’s just scenery porn (whoops, TVTroped you, sorry). Blizzard has been building up to the big event with a promotion called “ Your Fortune Awaits…,” though I can’t really say I’ve been following it too closely.Īt any rate, WoW players hit 100% on the contest, and Blizzard responded with this video you see here to the right: “The World Reborn.” It’s a glimpse at how the world of Azeroth will look once Cataclysm drops this Tuesday – old zones ( already given their cataclysmic revamp), shiny new zones, and instanced dungeons alike. In case you’ve missed it, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is out next week. This post was from a user who has deleted their account. This final (?) Cataclysm trailer may just be eye candy for WoW junkies, but it really doesn’t need to be anything else. I'm guessing you're going to need a decent computer for reflections to appear on the water, my comp probably will. ![]() ![]() This post was from a user who has deleted their account. Ever made one that didnt look like an ape? I am not experienced in 3d modelling and texturing too, even though i do not work in that department, but i do not think you need any experience to compare a model of a vanilla race to a model of a Vrykul or god forbit a Cataclysm Goblin. The facial textures of the default characters are mostly horrible too. Especially compared to newer character models, like the Vrykul. You can not say the default character models are not in a bad shape. Look at most of the weapons and gear from Wrath, not a big difference in poly count from Vanilla WoW, but leaps and bounds. Comment by Thror on T04:32:31-05:00Īlso, what is with people and poly counts? I model and texture for a living and it's not all about how many polys! Wrath is the perfect example of how well done textures can make even a low poly model look amazing. They still haven't gotten smoother/natural lookin' shorelines down, but I guess I can't expect miracles. A complete revolution in the graphics of the game can cost Blizzard part of it player base. Thus, Blizzard will lose costumers, it is true that WoW graphics are not the best nowadays (but they aren't the worst either).īetter graphics can lead to less costumers. If they improve the graphics of WoW, people who have crappy computers won't be able to run the game. ![]() How do Blizzard lose subscribers by allowing a broader amount of computers to run the game? Oh, I see the people who only play a game because of the graphics, they will not be missed. I would've liked a completely new graphic system in WoW somehow, but I suppose Blizzard's either too lazy to do something like that or they think it'll become too hard for computers to run it, which makes the game less playable for some people and therefore they'll lose subscribers. There's still lack of polygons in character 3D models and actual landscape (including objects etc.)īasically the whole game looks crappy nowadays (compared to other games), except for (incoming) water fx and spell effects. Shelves: art, warcraft, video-games, post-apocalyptic. Just changing water fx doesn't make it look any better overall. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (or Cata for short) is the third expansion for World of Warcraft.
